Purpose of Role: As a Mechanical Engineer within the Pump Technology Group, you will help shape the future of pumps with Weir Minerals.

This role offers a diverse range of challenges from conceptualization to execution of projects. Your ideas will be innovative and will have an impact on an always growing industry, whilst collaborating with a dynamic cross-functional team on a global scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new and innovative pump products, considering key input from external stakeholders and conducting your own research

  • Produce 3D models to communicate design intent and build prototypes

  • Create accurate FEA models to analyse mechanical components and systems

  • Perform engineering evaluation of designs using standard calculation methods, e.g. bearing life, shaft stress, weld stress etc

  • Review and sign off manufacturing drawings

  • Investigate and resolve technical issues from customers

  • Participate in Design Reviews, FMEAs and Product Risk assessments

  • Lead cross-functional project teams, ensuring timely completion of deliverables within budget constraints.

  • Prepare detailed technical documents, including specifications, design reports, and manuals.

  • Deliver engaging presentations to key stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering or related field

  • Proven experience in product design or working within mining, processing or heavy industry

  • Knowledge of pump products - highly desirable

  • Proficient in FEA software, CAD tools and programming languages

  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Experience in product trials, installation support and project implementation in a field environment
