Ipswich, Australia Chris Franck Full time

Are you passionate about using your lived experience to inspire hope and support others on their journey to recovery? We’re seeking an enthusiastic Peer Worker to join our team full-time working at the Ipswich Medicare Mental Health Centre, a service delivered by Open Minds and funded through the Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN.

As a Peer Worker, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting clients by drawing on your own experience of mental health challenges or recovery or caring for someone with mental illness, with the ability to inspire and support others through your journey. You'll be a vital part of a diverse and welcoming team that is committed to fostering growth, both for our clients and for you.

Your Role: No two days will be the same in this dynamic role. You'll engage with clients, helping to address their practical needs through case work and advocacy, and building strong, supportive relationships. Specifically, you will:

  • Connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, CALD and LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those at risk of homelessness or suicide.
  • Support clients by linking them to services such as physical activities, housing, and care coordination.
  • Help plan and deliver community events and co-facilitate group programs with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain a local services database and assist with warm referrals alongside our clinical team.

Why Join Us? At Open Minds, you’ll find a vibrant and passionate team, committed to delivering accessible services to the Ipswich community. We offer:

  • A dynamic work environment where you'll build strong community connections and provide much-needed support to our service users.
  • Generous salary packaging, including up to $15,900 tax-free.
  • Employee discounts at hundreds of retailers.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Reception and administrative support.

Join us at this exciting time of growth and be part of an organisation that you can truly be proud of.

About You: We’re looking for someone who can connect authentically with our clients, leveraging their own story to foster trust and hope. To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Personal lived experience of mental illness and recovery, or caring for someone with mental illness, with the ability to inspire and support others through your journey.
  • A Certificate IV in Mental Health or Mental Health Peer Work (highly desirable).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with individuals from all walks of life.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations around confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Confidence with digital tools, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Self-motivation, adaptability, and the ability to advocate for others.
  • Familiarity with local services and support networks.
