The BBV/STI Surveillance Coordinator:

Provides high level epidemiology skills to meet organisational objectives and outcomes designed to control the occurrence of communicable diseases in South Australia with a focus on bloodborne virus (BBV) and sexually transmissible Infections (STI). Is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of surveillance data in South Australia. Is required to provide epidemiological expertise in investigations of BBV and STI outbreaks and subsequent control activities. Supports the management of reporting systems and quality improvement programmes and addresses inconsistencies between surveillance practice and policy by integrating contemporary “best practice” into existing surveillance systems. Provides leadership and training to a multidisciplinary team that is required to participate in investigations of communicable disease outbreaks and subsequent control activities.  Contributes to national committees and working groups.

The Coordinator, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) contributes to the achievement of organisational objectives and outcomes designed to control the occurrence of communicable diseases in South Australia with a focus on bloodborne virus (BBV) and sexually transmissible infections (STI). In the course of fulfilling the role, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination of a state-wide surveillance system that informs subsequent control activities. The Coordinator, STI surveillance is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of information related to sexually transmitted diseases and blood-borne viruses in South Australia. The Coordinator STI surveillance is accountable for surveillance outcomes, addressing inconsistencies between surveillance practice and policy and integrating contemporary “best practice” information into existing surveillance systems.  The Coordinator, STI provides clinical leadership to nurses working in a variety of healthcare settings. The Coordinator STI surveillance provides leadership and training to a multidisciplinary team that is required to participate in investigations of communicable disease outbreaks and subsequent control activities. The incumbent will be required to participate on national committees and working parties.

A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving ‘Unsupervised Contact with Vulnerable Groups’ is required for this position (E.g. aged care employment or work involving vulnerable clients) A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category B (indirect contact with blood or body substances)

SA Health Services are required to implement the in the workplace.

Special Conditions

For AHP3

Appropriate post-graduate degree or equivalent qualification usually in mathematics/statistics or health sciences that leads to recognition as an epidemiologist. Core business hours are between 0830 to 1700, Monday to Friday. The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours on-call roster; out-of-hours work will be required. Appointment is subject to immunisation risk category requirements. There may be ongoing immunisation requirements that must be met. Intrastate/interstate travel may be required.

For RN3

Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate with at least 3 years post registration experience. Core business hours are between 0830 to 1700, Monday to Friday. The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours on-call roster; some out-of-hours work will be required. Appointment is subject to immunisation risk category requirements. There may be ongoing immunisation requirements that must be met. Intrastate/interstate travel may be required.

For PO3

Appropriate degree in Science Core business hours are between 0830 to 1700, Monday to Friday. The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours on-call roster; some out-of-hours work may be required. Appointment is subject to immunisation risk category requirements. There may be ongoing immunisation requirements that must be met. Intrastate/interstate travel may be required.
