Gilmour Space is the leading Australian rocket company, pioneering next-generation hybrid propulsion technologies for small satellite launch vehicles.

As part of the Launch Vehicle Operations team, you will be responsible for the final testing and integration of launch vehicle stages and the execution of launch operations at our orbital launch site in Bowen, Queensland. You will also be responsible for the conduct of propulsion tests on liquid bi-propellant engines, hybrid rocket engines, electric pump feed systems, and all associated sub-systems. In this role you will collaborate closely with engineering and technical teams to develop and execute test plans, deliver upgrades and maintenance to propulsion test stands, and implement improvements to enhance the reliability and performance of various launch vehicle systems.  Document and communicate across teams to ensure duties are performed in an efficient and timely manner whilst adhering to Gilmour Space policies and procedures.

  • Complete integration activities of components, sub systems, and payloads on orbital and sub-orbital class launch vehicles.
  • Participate effectively as part of a launch operations team for the purpose of preparing for and executing successful launch missions
  • Operate Ground Support Equipment and Ground Launch Systems during high level system testing.
  • Operation of and direction to teams operating test stands and infrastructure to efficiently, effectively and safely execute rocket engine and sub-system testing.
  • Develop and execute maintenance plans for test infrastructure, stands, and associated systems.
  • Prepare and conduct testing and test reviews in accordance with policies, plans and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot test systems and articles and perform root cause analysis
  • Assist/Lead research, development, qualification and acceptance tests of launch vehicle sub-systems.
  • Develop and review procedures and checklist for executing testing and integration operations and maintenance.
  • Develop and review procedures for manufacturing and maintaining test components, assets and infrastructure
  • Conduct technical analysis, design and sizing of launch vehicle and ground-support power systems
  • Support a range of complex test activities to required policies and standards
  • Ensure department engineering activities and documentation are conducted in accordance with Gilmour Space policies, plans and procedures
  • Possess and provide an understanding of Australian electrical regulatory requirements
  • Liaise and develop relationships with suppliers and manufacturing subcontractors.
  • Act as a mentor to junior engineers, where appropriate
  • Other duties as requested by Management

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Sustained enthusiasm and interest in space technology and its application for space commercialisation and exploration
  • Bachelors (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering discipline sufficient to satisfy the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust)
  • 3+ years of demonstrated expertise with the design, analysis, development, test and operation of Electrical Engineering
  • Experience conducting risk management activities and a good understanding of risk management processes
  • Experience participating in multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and technicians
  • Exceptional work ethic, initiative, attention to detail and ability to obtain and retain new information
  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to work well in a safety critical, dynamic environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and written) with technicians, supervisors, engineers, and any other support departments
  • Experience working well with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.

  • Experience developing electrical actuators, batteries, harnesses, high voltage power electronics or industrial SCADA systems 
  • Familiarity of the Australian Electrical Standards and Codes
  • Demonstrated engineering experience within the space, aerospace or automotive industry
  • Experience with the integration and test of commercial off the shelf (COTS) equipment
  • Experience with setting targets and expectations, and then working with a team to reach these targets, and ability to track progress
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation/requirements
  • Experience delivering positive and constructive feedback to individuals
  • Able to adapt to constant changing work assignments in a fast-paced work environment.
