Medical Internships/Prevocational Trainees

The Royal Melbourne (RMH) is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

RMH has a dedicated Medical Education Unit (MEU) that provides support for Doctors in Training via our Supervisor of Intern Training, Director of Clinical Training and Medical Education Officers. Education includes weekly intern sessions, as well as skills training and advanced life support training.

Your Opportunity:

Interns at RMH rotate through five terms. These include General Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Vascular Surgery, Stroke, Urology, Infectious Diseases, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation. Secondment rotations include Ballarat Health Services, North East Health Wangaratta, The Royal Women’s Hospital and Wimmera Health Horsham. All Interns are typically required to undertake at least one rural rotation.

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check and a Working With Children Check. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of an immunisation assessment prior to commencement.

Desirable: Have you undertaken regular paid or unpaid (voluntary) work within the last 3 years?
Desirable: Have you undertaken work, done research, studied or a clinical elective at Royal Melbourne Hospital in the past 3 years?
Desirable: Have you held a formal leadership role designated by your university or outside your university e.g in a community organisation? (minimum of 6 months involvement in past 2 years)
Desirable: Do you have any publications in peer reviewed journals (including any 'pending')?
Desirable: Have you received an academic award or scholarship while undertaking your MBBS (e.g. Honours scholarship). If yes, please provide details
Desirable: Have you worked in healthcare prior or during your medical degree?
Desirable: Please indicate if you have a training preference for your PGY2 year of BPT / surgical / general / undecided. Please note, you will have an opportunity to change this during PGY1 if successful with your application.
