About the role

We are thrilled to share an exciting opportunity for the position of SHES Specialist - Assurance and Systems at Orica. This role is crucial in supporting the Manager of SHES Assurance and Governance by implementing the SHES Assurance Framework and identifying opportunities for SHES improvement. The SHES Specialist will manage and deliver the Group SHES Audit Program, develop the annual SHES assurance plan and scope, oversee regional and site verification programs, and produce biannual SHES assurance reports. Establishing a continuous improvement framework to ensure compliance with Orica standards, as well as applicable external standards and programs, is a key responsibility.

In addition, the SHES Specialist will monitor actions and SHES Material Risks through the oversight of the SHES Audit Program and manage updates to the SHES Management System as required. Collaboration with global and regional SHES teams and operational resources is essential to this role, ensuring a cohesive approach to SHES assurance and governance across the organization. The ability to build trust and gain respect from internal and external stakeholders is crucial, as is maintaining a high standard of personal integrity, ethics, and behaviour.

What you will be doing

SHES Standards and Procedures

  • Maintain the Group Standards, Procedures, and relevant guidance for SHES audit and assurance activities.
  • Support the update of SHES Management System elements in collaboration with regions based on identified improvements.

SHES Assurance Activities

  • Develop and maintain the company-wide SHES assurance framework in coordination with Internal Audit.
  • Establish scope for Tier 1 Group SHES and Tier 2 Regional SHES programs, ensuring verification of Group SHES programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate the Group SHES (Tier 1) audit program, including administration, coordination, and participation in selected audits.
  • Monitor internal and external SHES assurance issues, trends, and opportunities, focusing on quality and closeout of critical/high/medium priority actions.
  • Build SHES assurance capability across Orica through coaching and education to ensure effective implementation of the SHES assurance framework.
  • Prepare Group SHES audit program summary information for Executive and Board reporting.

SHES Improvement Framework

  • Design, develop, and deploy a SHES Improvement Framework focused on continuous improvement and effective management of Orica’s SHES Management System.
  • Verify improvement activities and ensure alignment with global programs and initiatives.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on corporate/group SHES Improvement programs.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement, benchmarking Orica as a leader in continuous improvement and learning.
  • Review and provide feedback to confirm effective implementation and application in regions.

SHES Training and Collaboration

  • Support the design and development of SHES assurance and SHES MS training programs and tools, including audit skills and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Group SHES team, regions, and SMEs to ensure comprehensive training and tool development.

What you will bring

  • Five+ years of industry experience (manufacturing and/or mining industry)
  • Relevant degree (Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Public Health, Safety Management, etc.)
  • Experience with SHES audits and assurance
  • Sound knowledge of safety and environmental regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of SHE management systems, assurance, and auditing frameworks
  • Proficiency in risk management
  • SHE auditor qualifications preferred, but not essential
  • Experience with analytics and development of SHES programs, tools, and training
