ABOUT THE ROLE:
OHC is looking for experienced Youth Workers to be a part of the healing, development and progression for young people in residential care dealing with trauma, neglect, and/or abuse. OHC are passionate in the delivery of a holistic care approach, supported by positive behavioural frameworks and management models.
As a youth worker you will be required to engage in ongoing training to enhance you practice and performance. OHC management team is devoted to ensuring you are supported while trained well. Great training opportunities will be rolled out over the next coming weeks/months – now is great time to apply for the youth worker position.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide personalised client centred care to young people within the OHC company placement.
Actioning of the child's care plan and safety plans in all day-to-day tasks.
Providing positive support and guidance to the young person surrounding life choices and better ways of living.
General domestic household duties such as cleaning, shopping and general maintenance.
Working as member of a wider team, providing therapeutic care for the young person.
Report to Supervisor/Coordinator regarding any support/care-related issues, including advising the relevant Supervisor/ Coordinator /After Hours Coordinator immediately after or during an incident. This includes Critical and Non-critical incidents.
Complete relevant paperwork and documentation regarding the client - this must be compliant with child safety regulations and OHC standards. This will be done prior to the completion of each shift and is inclusive of shift notes, Incident reports, and WHS reports, alongside other pressing administrative duties.
General administration duties, such as managing finances, uploading receipts and invoices received during shift, maintaining young people's files, completing forms as necessary.
Attend training sessions & meetings as required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Minimum Qualifications: Certificate IV in Child, Youth, and Family Intervention, Youth Work, Community Services, or other relevant qualifications (or currently studying).
Experience: Minimum 1 years of relevant experience working with children or young people in residential or youth care, particularly those with trauma or complex needs is highly desirable.
SKILLS:
Possess knowledge of trauma-informed therapeutic care to effectively deescalate and respond to critical incidents involving young individuals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including working and communicating effectively with clients, their families, and other professionals while representing OHC.
Able to confidently navigate through Microsoft Office software
Comply with & understand all privacy and confidentiality issues
Aware of appropriate cultural protocols for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and those from CALD backgrounds.
Experience in supporting children and young people with 'complex needs and behaviours and can apply behavioural support models and frameworks.
Ability to build rapport and trust with participants and stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving and conflict management skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships.
Must be familiar with child safety plans and must follow safety measures and procedures at all times.
SCHEDULE:
Afternoon, day, fixed, or flexible shifts
Availability on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays
1 x sleep over shift per week (preferable)
LICENSES AND CLEARANCES:
Current Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card)
Current First Aid and CPR certification
Australian Driver's License
Comprehensive car insurance (for personal vehicle)
Clear National Police Check within the last 3 months
Additional Mandatory Training: Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module, Hope and Healing Framework (or willingness to complete).
