Senior Economist/Senior Policy Analyst , Revenue Forecasting and Analysis

Role impact & contribution

Your typical day-to-day work within the Revenue Forecasting and Analysis Branch will include providing estimates of projected revenues, with particular emphasis on state taxes and GST. This includes developing, refining and applying quantitative models to forecast revenue lines for the Budget, forward estimates, and planning years. The work of the team is vital in supporting fiscal sustainability, by informing broader Treasury advice on expenditure capacity and borrowing requirements. The team works closely with other teams within Revenue Division and with other teams across Treasury and other parts of government, to ensure high-quality and robust policy advice and costings.

What you can bring to the role.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, econometrics, finance, social sciences, public policy or relevant experience.
  • The ability to work across diverse policy issues to support economic and revenue forecasts and/or policy advice and reform, and the ability to apply critical perspectives across diverse policy issues.
  • Particular expertise in at least one of the following areas:
    • Policy development and analysis
    • Tax policy
    • Economics
    • Data analysis and econometrics
    • Economic and fiscal modelling
