Infrastructure, Energy and Major Projects Senior Lawyer - Melbourne

About Dentons
Dentons is the world's largest law firm. We're 20,000+ people globally across 80+ countries including USA; Europe; India and Asia. We are a global polycentric firm which is expanding rapidly in an increasingly globalised legal industry.
Dentons now consistently ranks as one of the five best regarded legal brands in the world according to the Acritas Global Elite Law Firm Brand Index.

About the Role

We seek an infrastructure, energy and major projects Senior Associate to join our Construction and Major Projects team. Our team is strategically positioned to advise project participants on the largest and most complex major projects in the country and regionally. Focussing on the infrastructure and energy sectors, our team advises on the preparation and negotiation of EPC, O&M/FM, TSI, BOP, D&C, PPP, joint venture arrangements, supply contracts, connection agreements and other ancillary construction and services agreements. Our team also provides strategic advice in relation to the early development phases and structuring of projects.

As a key member of the Construction and Major Projects team, you will work closely with the practice group Partners and your colleagues (both in Australia and regionally) on high profile front-end energy and infrastructure projects across sectors including energy, mining, transport, social infrastructure and water.

About You

We seek a Senior Associate with an innovative and commercial approach, who possesses unprecedented legal capability to navigate complex circumstances and who can meet challenging deadlines. As a senior member of the team, you will be given a high level of responsibility and autonomy to lead matters, so you will need to be confident advising clients with complex drafting and negotiation skills.

Working with the practice group Partners, you will have an aptitude for business development and be motivated to strategically take advantage of our global client network and collaborate with Dentons' colleagues internationally to drive practice growth in Australia. You will also be encouraged and supported to develop your own relationships and build on your market presence, positioning you for future career progression.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience with major front-end infrastructure, energy and construction projects. Strong experience advising and running PPP projects is ideal, although we will consider candidates with experience advising on front-end design and construct and EPCs;
  • An excellent academic record, coupled with strong legal skills and a practical, commercial mindset;
  • First-class attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to comprehend intricate legal matters;
  • A proactive approach and desire to be an integral member of our growing team. You will also enjoy working with, and contributing to, the growth and development of associates in the team;
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to assimilate information quickly and manage multiple priorities within tight timeframes, both collaboratively and autonomously;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise with clients and diverse stakeholder audiences.

The role offers a unique opportunity to be part of the growth and development of the infrastructure, energy and major projects practice at Dentons. You will enjoy working in a close-knit, growing team and you will be supported and mentored to help you achieve your career goals.
