Paralegal Specialist

Overview:

You'll be an integral part of the U.S. Army's legal system as a Paralegal Specialist, providing legal and administrative support in various areas of law including criminal, family, international, civil, administrative, contract, and fiscal law.

Job Duties:

  1. Provide paralegal support to unit commanders and the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate.
  2. Prepare and provide legal documents for courts-martial, nonjudicial punishments, and other military justice matters.
  3. Assist with line of duty determinations, separation board proceedings, and other administrative law matters.
  4. Offer support in family law matters such as powers of attorney, wills, and separation decrees.

Requirements:

  1. Be between 17–40 years old.
  2. Hold U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
  3. Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  4. Undergo background and medical screening.
  5. Achieve a passing score on the ASVAB.

Training:

Paralegal Specialist job training involves 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 10 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction.

  1. Legal terminology and research techniques.
  2. Preparation of legal documents.
  3. Understanding the Army National Guard judicial process.
  4. Interviewing witnesses.

  1. Supervising those in command.
  2. Providing technical guidance to subordinates.
  3. Maintaining law/administrative library resources.
  4. Ensuring accuracy by monitoring and reviewing actions.
