About
The Australia and New Zealand (AUNZ) Public Policy team's work spans across a broad and diverse range of functions and workstreams, including government relations; policy and issue area expertise; risk and issue management and mitigation; outreach and partnerships; and philanthropy. The mission of the AUNZ Public Policy team is to develop and advocate for solutions for pressing tech policy-related issues and to promote a political, legislative, and regulatory environment that supports growth and innovation for our business. This is a full-time position based in Sydney.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning and advise the company on emerging data policy matters to ensure the success of the team's goals in AUNZ and provide strategic guidance to internal teams.
- Represent TikTok to government agencies, ministers and their offices, and external parties engaged in data privacy and security, cross-border data flows, policy making, and similar issues of importance.
- Proactively identify and address emerging and significant AUNZ data policy issues, as well as regulatory developments in the region, that could be of significance to the company and its products.
- Represent TikTok at tech industry forums and trade associations.
- Work closely with cross-functional corporate and product teams on the development and integration of key data policy projects.
- Maintain and develop strong relationships with third-party public interest groups, industry associations and academics engaged in technology policy issues.
- Carry out research and reporting on domestic and international policy issues relevant to the company.

**Qualifications**:
Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive experience working with relevant public policy issues in AUNZ, including cross border data flows, data protection, safety and information security.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills: the successful applicant will need to work with other departments, including legal, data and privacy, and public relations functions, to define needs, alignment and path for collaboration.
- Outstanding judgement, diplomacy and advocacy skills, and creativity.
- Discipline and self-drive. The ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding and often uncertain environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience working with cross-functional teams, influencing, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to successfully implement programs and initiatives.
- An established reputation and network of contacts among key data policy decision-makers across government, civil society, academia and NGOs.
- Strong research and analytical skills: the successful applicant will need to take complex situations and effectively communicate their implications for the company, as well as championing the needs and priorities of the public policy function to company leadership.
