About the role
You will be an experienced Scientist joining the Microbiology department.
You will be responsible for:
Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
Perform all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for pathological diagnosis
Assist with stock control
Maintain records and record results in line with protocols
Maintain and operate all equipment per protocols
Maintain current scientific knowledge
Participate in routine and audit-related Quality Assurance activities
Contribute to continuous improvement and development of new assays as required
Participate in training staff
Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders regarding test results or referrals as necessary
Comply with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
About you
Essential requirements:
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the discipline
Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in line with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Commitment to quality and excellence
Willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
Positive attitude and ability to be a cohesive, contributing team member
Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
Ability to cope in a busy environment
Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine-preventable diseases
