Major Projects Lead

**Role overview**

Due to increased success in securing larger, more complex projects and work packages, our client has created this new national executive leadership role in their firm. Your role will be multifaceted. It will involve oversight of all major projects and pursuits for major projects, manage complex negotiations with clients and partners, provide regular updates and raise potential issues early to the CEO and board, and provide ongoing support and guidance to the Project Managers.

**About the company**

Our client is a well-recognised, employee-owned Australian consultancy firm that has been delivering services in terms of engineering, environmental consulting, advisory, and project management for over 50 years. The project portfolio is diverse including transport, civil infrastructure, energy, industrial, and mining sectors. The teams work nationally and collaborate across all their offices. Most major projects are expected to be in New South Wales or Victoria, so it is preferable that the incoming executive be based in the Sydney or Melbourne office.

Major projects for this organisation are those with fees of circa $5m or above. The committed projects and opportunities in the pipeline are mostly transport and civil infrastructure projects in New South Wales and Victoria but also across the other two states where the organisation is focused. The projects will range in size and remit so will see some of the more complex projects requiring more time and focus than others. The role will be supported by other executives and the necessary internal resources required for success.

**Responsibilities include**
As the Major Projects Lead, you will:

- Lead and coordinate positioning efforts with clients nationally with support from divisional leaders
- Strong stakeholder / client management - the role will involve working with contractors in the design and construct environment
- Commercial / Issue resolution in complex partnership environments
- the role will be responsible for establishing project commercials, governance, and commercial negotiation during delivery phase.
- Active involvement in projects as project director and regular communication with project managers to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Direct and govern delivery of projects within necessary legal frameworks - regular reporting to the board and escalating potential issues early
- Have commitment toward continuous improvement and implement best practice into project delivery across the client's portfolio
- Support and mentor the project leads and other team members
- Amplify market relationships for business growth

**Preferred skills and experience**
- Demonstrable experience working in a major infrastructure project environment
- Experience in securing and delivering successful major projects
- Past hands-on leadership experience and success
- Ability to cultivate a high-performance culture within teams and the business
- Ability to balance projects delivery and positioning for work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Commercial acumen and prior responsibilities for commercials of major projects
- Ability to engage, communicate and liaise with external stakeholders and key clients
- Leverage existing industry contacts and knowledge to support team and organisational results
