Overview
Senior Corporate Counsel role at Caterpillar Inc. (Melbourne based).
This position will play a leading role to deliver comprehensive legal support for Australia, New Zealand and Structured Finance across Asia Pacific Region, with a strong focus on cross-border transactions, new business initiatives, regulatory compliance and litigation management. The role reports to the Assistant General Counsel and collaborates with AP Regional Counsel, LSPP regional teams and outside counsels.
What You Will Do
Provide legal support regarding transactions, compliance, corporate governance, and litigation for Cat Financials' core business in Australia, New Zealand and Structured Finance.
Advise senior management and provide clear recommendations on legal matters.
Assist with implementation of legal strategies and goals aligned with the companys objectives; research complex legal issues and draft/Review complex legal documents.
Provide leadership, legal expertise and counsel to business leaders at all levels.
Assess legal risk and help identify and resolve issues across a broad range of risk exposures.
The Senior Corporate Counsel will work closely with Line Unit leadership, AP Regional Counsel and relevant LSPP teams to ensure high-quality legal support.
What You Have
Legal expertise and experience in managing financial services; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from legal and factual information.
Business acumen and judgement with knowledge of the financial leasing industry.
Risk management experience and ability to apply risk management concepts to diverse situations.
Strategic vision and ability to lead change with an enterprise perspective.
Leadership skills to enlist others in achieving objectives.
Problem solving: initiative, risk identification, decision making and accountability.
Strong communication: interpersonal, collaborative, and negotiation skills internally and externally.
Collaboration across functions and with external parties.
Decision making and critical thinking: ability to analyze situations and make informed decisions.
Education And Experience Requirements
A 4-year college or university degree with a law background; Master of Laws (LL.M.) preferred.
Legal professional certification and substantial legal practice experience in Australia.
8–10 years of experience, with 3–5 years in industry experience with captive financing companies or related roles preferred.
Experience in transactions, legal agreements, litigation, compliance and regulatory matters in the financial industry.
Proven ability to interpret and communicate complex legal issues and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in English (spoken and written), including strong legal writing skills.
Additional Information
Working environment: 5 days in office.
Sponsorship and relocation are not supported for this role.
