Anzac Day Veteran And Family Delivery Pool
1 week ago
**Would you like to take part in the 2025 International Anzac Day Commemorations as part of the department's team?**
The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) is responsible for acknowledging and commemorating those who served Australia and its Allies in wars, conflicts and peace operations through commemorations, memorials, war graves and research.
A key element of this responsibility is the planning and delivery of international and domestic commemorative services.
DVA is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for volunteers who are veterans, or family members of veterans, to participate in the 2025 Anzac Day international and domestic commemorative services and activities.
Veterans and family members of veterans expressing an interest will be considered for inclusion in the Veteran and Family Pool and may be selected to support DVA deliver international and domestic commemorative activities such as:
- supporting the delivery of Anzac Day services in Türkiye and France; and
- supporting domestic commemorative services and activities in Canberra.
It is important to note that inclusion in the Veteran and Family Pool does not guarantee an applicant a role in the commemorative services. The selection of veterans or family members of veterans for activities will be undertaken prior to each activity and will be based on suitability, skills and the capability to act as a volunteer.
**Please note**
- for this expression of interest process, a family member of a veteran is defined as a parent, child, spouse or sibling.
- a veteran and their own family member will not be considered for attendance at the same commemorative service.
- Volunteers must be able to meet the fitness requirements as outlined below or they will not be considered.
**Eligibility to express an interest as a volunteer**
To be eligible to express an interest, volunteers must:
- be a veteran or a family member of a veteran
- be willing to receive medical approval from their GP confirming that they possess both the physical and psychological resilience necessary to succeed in a challenging and demanding work environment, including the necessary travel (confirmation of this will be required if selected as part of a delivery team);
- be willing and able to fly economy class on all flights (including long haul);
- be willing to agree to and pass, to DVA's satisfaction, a criminal history and other relevant checks if selected to participate in commemorative services;
- be willing to take direction from a government official;
- conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the values and behaviours outlined in the APS Code of Conduct;
- be willing to obtain the appropriate passport and/or visa for international travel; and
- attend training sessions or meetings in the period leading up to the commemorative services or activities. If needed, DVA will arrange travel and accommodation for the volunteer to attend this training.
**What are we looking for?**
We are looking for veterans or family members of veterans who:
- have previously deployed or had a family member deploy on operations;
- are interested in being a volunteer with DVA to support the commemorative activities and to engage with other veterans and their families and the general public;
- are willing, as a volunteer, to participate in public speaking roles or other
- service-related roles e.g. reciting the Ode of Remembrance during a live broadcast;
- have good communication skills and are willing to participate in media interviews;
- are willing to support others, have a can-do attitude and are happy to be flexible regarding the tasks they are given to ensure overall objectives are met;
- are willing to take direction from operational team leaders who may be younger than themselves;
- have resilience and endurance. Teams that support the delivery of commemorative activities work extended hours, are usually on their feet for long periods in varying degrees of weather and environmental conditions. A moderate to high level of physical fitness is required;
- are willing to act in a representational role, upholding the reputation of the Commonwealth in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and Values; and
- are willing to work under pressure and be flexible while in a non-English speaking environment.
**Roles**
In addition to supporting DVA staff, volunteers at commemorative services may undertake the following activities:
- conduct public speaking;
- assist attendees on arrival and departure from sites, seating and through security screening;
- provide information, guidance and advice to attendees;
- liaise with Locally Engaged Staff who you may be required to work with and guide;
