**Our Journey**:
The Southern Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA), is a program of Monash Health and has the responsibility in the Southern Region of the Department of Families, Fairness & Housing (DFFH) for:
- The provision and development of effective services to victim/survivors and associated people affected by sexual assault and family violence
- The provision of assessment and treatment for children and young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour.
- The provision of public education and professional training on sexual assault and anti-violence issues
- Social planning and processes related to reducing societal violence.
The program aims to address barriers to ensure equal access to sexual assault services. The Making Rights Reality Program has a primary focus on resourcing SECASA Counsellor Advocates to provide an inclusive and accessible counselling and advocacy service for victim/survivors with disabilities, and in particular those with complex communication needs or cognitive impairment. Additional work and collaborations with other programs across the service including working closely with Monash Health Disability Inclusion Lead and Sexual Assault Service (SASVic) Inclusion and Equity - Disability Lead.
**A Day in the Life**:
Making Rights Reality is a program at SECASA that aims to ensure that people with disabilities who have experienced sexual assault or family violence have equal access to counselling, the criminal justice system, and the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal, and is available across all SECASA sites. The program recognises that people living with disabilities, and in particular women with disabilities, experience higher rates of sexual and family violence than others in the community, and increased barriers to accessing services and the legal system. The program is informed by the social model of disability, which highlights that disability results from the interaction of impairments with social, physical or structural barriers, compromising ability to participate in society on an equal basis.
You will:
- Coordinate Making Rights Reality Program (Access and inclusion for victim/survivors with a disability) across SECASA to support service provision that is both evidence based and contemporary in practice.
- Provide advice, support and guidance in care team meetings with Counsellor Advocates and Clinical Leads in the planning of interventions for victim/survivors. These care team meetings may involve a range of external services that SECASA works with such as Dept. Of Families, Fairness & Housing.
- Work in partnership with consumer advocates to ensure the opinions and voices of our victim/survivor with a disability is at the forefront of service planning within SECASA.
- Provide community education, training and professional development sessions to a range of stakeholders including internal to SECASA and Monash Health as well as external partners (eg) Victoria Police, Child Protection, Specialist and mainstream schools and residential service providers.
- Work in partnership and collaboration with SECASA Clinical Leads in the provision of clinical review of all victim/survivors within the service to ensure a well-planned and consumer centre service provision and/or transition plan is in place.
- Supervision of students and staff as required.
