The opportunity:The Cellular Immunology Group at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Life Scientist with expertise in viral immunology to join our new team with the Infection, Immunity and Global Health Theme.
You will be part of a research team working on studies that will improve our understanding of virus-specific immunity across the human lifespan, with a particular emphasis on T cell responses.
Working under supervision of Dr Carolien van de Sandt, you will contribute to the establishment of various research projects within the group, including but not limited to managing and handling human cohorts, cutting edge immunological research including high-dimensional Flow Cytometry, single cell TCR sequencing, single cell RNA sequencing platforms, transgenic cell line generation and computational analysis.
You will be responsible high-quality research, project and lab management as well as co-supervising postgraduate, master and/or honours students.
You will collaborate with leading scientists and produce high-impact research.
Your responsibilities include: Undertakes high-calibre competitive research, including the generation and analysis of high-calibre research data, both independently and as part of a research team
Follows standard operating procedures, study protocols and study guidelines
Works to improve skill base in research productivity and methodology
Conducts continuous maintenance of neat and orderly records, logbooks and data storage
Identifies ways to improve data collection/quality utilised by the team/group or research What we need from you: Relevant PhD/Doctoral qualification and relevant postdoctoral experience
Experience in viral immunology, particularly related to influenza immunology
Experience with technologies including: High-dimensional flow cytometry, including panel design, tetramer staining, intracellular cytokine assays and T cell phenotyping
Single-cell TCR sequencing using Illumina and Sanger platforms
Transgenic cell line generation via lentiviral transduction, culture and high-throughput screening of TCR expressing cell lines Experience with data interpretation, integration of high-dimensional immunology datasets and computational analysis including flow cytometry data (FlowJo), R, TCRdist and Python algorithms for TCR analysis and statistical analysis
Experience with cellular cultures, human cohorts, influenza virus culture (including titration using plaque assays, EID50s, qPCR) and molecular biology For full viewing of responsibilities and requirements please refer to the What's in it for you?
