BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of Highway Maintenance services across Scotland.
We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland's trunk road network, tackling a wide range of tasks to keep Scotland moving.We inspect, manage, and maintain over 2,500km of Scotland's trunk road network, including 1,500 structures in the North West of Scotland for our client, Transport Scotland.
Our work involves challenging and scenic locations, dealing with structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, gantries, and masts.We are seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our North West Bridges Team based in Perth.
The role involves working within a diverse team on investigation, design, procurement, and construction of bridge maintenance schemes.The Bridge Engineer will assist with investigation, design, planning, procurement, and construction management of bridge maintenance works.
The role requires collaboration with internal teams and subcontractors.Roles and Responsibilities:Detailed design of bridge maintenance schemesEnsuring compliance with technical standardsPreparing departures from standard when necessaryProducing reports, investigations, feasibility studies, and assessmentsCollaborating within NW Bridges and other BEAR departmentsPreparing tender documents, preconstruction information, and construction packagesSupporting commercial teams with tender evaluations and contract awardsProcurement, supervision, and measurement of maintenance worksWorking with environmental specialists to ensure environmental screening and mitigation measuresAdhering to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality proceduresEnsuring compliance with CDM Regulations and conducting risk assessmentsMaintaining structure data and as-built records using management systemsPreparing cost estimates and monitoring financial performanceSupporting Graduate Engineers and TechniciansKnowledge, Skills, and Experience:Degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringExperience in civil engineering designProfessional qualification or working towards membership of a relevant professional bodyValid UK driving licenseCandidates should have civil engineering design experience, knowledge of health and safety, environmental, and commercial aspects of schemes, and be professionally qualified or working towards such qualifications.We seek self-motivated individuals interested in career progression, with good teamwork and communication skills, flexibility, and a valid driving license.
