**About the team**:
The Australian Space Agency provides government leadership on civil space capability to improve the lives of Australians and
strengthen our society. The Agency ensures that Australia's space activities contribute to Australia's national interest and broader Government objectives, including enhanced economic resilience, social cohesion, environmental sustainability, and national security.
Our agents deliver meaningful outcomes that will benefit our nation long into the future.
The Agency's functions include:
- Leadership of policy and coordination of civil space activities across government,
- Shape and grow national space capability, including delivery of Agency programs,
- Lead international civil space engagement for economic and strategic benefit, in alignment with Australian foreign policy objectives,
- Promote a responsible, effectively regulated space sector, while delivering on our international obligations,
- Promote the value and benefits of space to the community, including to inspire a highly skilled workforce.
- Highly resilient and outcomes-focused individual with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
- At least 7 years' experience in a communications, media or events role. A combination of skills will be highly regarded.
- A demonstrated network of media contacts, including proven experience in landing mainstream media coverage.
- Previous experience managing teams and budgets, as well as navigating procurement processes.
**What you will do**:
The Assistant Director, Communications and Events is responsible for:
- Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement - advancing understanding of the contribution of space to a productive, resilient and sustainable Australia in line with the Agency's Business Plan and strategic priorities,
- Managing the team that delivers the Agency's:
- Media activities, including proactive and reactive opportunities/enquiries
- Speechwriting for the Head of Agency and relevant Minister, as required
- Website space.gov.au, including the development of content and back-end management
- External events and activations, including procuring and project managing large scale booth presences at international trade shows and domestic conferences and festivals
- Multi-platform social media strategy
- Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry and media organisations.
- Maintaining the Agency's Communications Plan to reflect changing trends and priorities,
- Other tasks and projects as directed by the Head of Agency, General Manager - Space Policy, and Director - Community Engagement.
