Spanning three years , this transformative project will include:Technical and functional backlog creationSecure configuration and platform hardeningPilot deployment and iterative validationEnterprise-scale rollout across teamsContinuous optimisation and improvementTransition to Business As Usual (BAU)This is one of the most forward-thinking AI-driven developer productivity initiatives in the Australian Government—and you can help make it happen.As the Solution Architect , you will own the design and governance of the technical architecture underpinning the GitHub Copilot solution.
You'll ensure the design is secure, scalable, supportable, and seamlessly fits within the ATO's existing enterprise architecture.You'll work closely with stakeholders across delivery, security, and business functions to ensure a cohesive and compliant technical strategy that drives value from day one.Design high-level and low-level architectural artefacts (logical, physical, and integration diagrams)Define integration patterns with ATO cloud services, including Azure , Azure AD , and developer tooling (e.g., Azure DevOps , GitHub Enterprise )? Collaborate with the Security & Compliance Lead to embed security controls into all layers of the solutionLead technical validation and proof-of-concept activities to de-risk critical architecture decisionsProvide ongoing architectural guidance to engineering, DevOps, and security teams during deliveryDefine and enforce non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, resilience, observability, disaster recovery)Establish architecture governance practices and contribute to steering/assurance forumsCollaborate with business and product stakeholders to ensure alignment with organisational goalsSupport testing, go-live readiness, and seamless handover to BAU operationsRequired Skills & ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you must have a proven track record of delivering secure, enterprise-grade cloud architectures—preferably in the federal space.You must have:7+ years of experience as a Solution Architect in complex ICT programs? Demonstrated experience designing cloud-native solutions in AzureDeep expertise in GitHub Enterprise , CI/CD , and developer toolingStrong understanding of identity and access management (IAM) , RBAC , and secure integration methodsAbility to produce high-quality architecture documentation for technical and business audiencesTOGAF or equivalent architecture certification (preferred)Experience designing or implementing AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub CopilotFamiliarity with DevSecOps and secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) frameworksExperience in Agile, DevOps, and iterative delivery environments?
