
Risk Consultant, Natural Catastrophe

In this rare opportunity, we are looking for a qualified Risk Consultant in Natural Catastrophes to provide support to our property underwriting and risk engineering teams for the APAC region. You will manage and develop loss estimates on individual and portfolio risks. There will be opportunity to develop and enhance existing processes and tools.
Our risk consulting team identify how risks fit into our client's corporate risk management strategy and support them to determine and prioritise investments needed to control these risks.
Sydney location preferred then Melbourne or Brisbane.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Work closely with our account engineers and underwriters throughout all aspects of the natural hazards risk quantification process.
- Enhance development of the property and natural catastrophe book of business through active engagement of prospective and active clients.
- Desktop and onsite reviews of property and natural catastrophe exposures for our insured and non-insured clients.
- Work hand in hand with the network of specialized engineers of our Risk Consulting team to serve clients (seismic engineers, flood specialized engineers, wind specialized engineers).
- Complete desk top reviews and loss estimates for various perils for site specific and insured portfolio.
- Complete site or area specific inspections to verify or clarify specific exposures.
- Develop existing tools and enhance existing processes. Increase automation and improve reliability.
- Develop and provide training for staff on NATCAT topics.
- Develop articles, brochures, and company literature.
- Conduct research and maintain ongoing knowledge and development of NATCAT topics.
- Build credibility with and create customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of risk control services.
- Market and contribute to the expertise of our risk consulting team's natural hazards services to external and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of innovative risk modelling tools and approaches in Natural Hazards, in collaboration with the AXA group innovation teams and external academic partners.
- Interstate travel will be required and occasional international travel.
You will report to the Regional Engineering Leader - ANZ with a transversal report to the Risk Consulting head of Natural Hazards and Climate Change.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
**Required Skills and Abilities**:
- Working rights: You must have Australian permanent working rights
- Work Experience: 5 years' work experience in insurance, risk engineering, civil engineering/construction or natural catastrophes.
- Knowledge: Excellent understanding of perils science underlying natural hazards risk assessment. Working knowledge of NATCAT exposures using various models such as NATHAN and CATNET.
- Excellent communication skills: the ability to explain technical data in simpler language and communicate effectively with a broad range of underwriting and customer partners are essential.
- Driver's license: Must have a valid Australian license.
- Autonomous: Self-motivated and able to work autonomously on routinary tasks, while demonstrating the ability to work in a team and learn new topics, being motivated to grow within a global market leader.
- MS office: Intermediate knowledge with knowledge writing and developing macros in MS Excel.
**Desired Skills and Abilities**:
- Catastrophe models: Working knowledge of catastrophe models is considered a plus
- Additional training: Courses and training in NATCAT field.
- Programming: Knowledge in R, Python or equivalent.
- Spatial data: Experience in visualising spatial data (ArcGIS/QGIS, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of probability and statistics.
