Overview
Staff Data Engineer (AWS Cloud) role at Commonwealth Bank.
You will be joining the CTO Data Engineering team to drive our Data Strategy and contribute to a unified, world-class data platform enabling AI-enabled applications.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain data warehouses and data lakes.
Work with AWS services related to data storage and processing (e.g., S3, RDS, Redshift, Glue).
Design and implement data ingestion, transformation pipelines, data integration and visualization.
Apply best practices for data quality, profiling and numerical statistics.
Collaborate with engineers to deliver data-driven solutions that power digital banking experiences.
Provide code quality control through peer programming, code reviews and automated pipeline release management.
Coach junior engineers and uplift software development practices.
Qualifications
Experience building data warehouses or data lakes.
Proficient in Python and SQL.
In-depth knowledge of DBT.
In-depth knowledge of AWS data services (S3, RDS, Redshift, Glue).
Knowledge of data architectures such as Data Vault 2.0.
Experience with full software development lifecycle focused on data ingestion, transformation, integration and visualization.
Understanding of data profiling, numerical statistics and data quality calculations.
Experience with large-scale data processing and analytics.
Ability to ensure code quality via peer reviews and automated pipelines; capable of coaching others.
Technical skills
Proficiency with SQL and DBT.
Experience with AWS services such as Glue, Lambda, SageMaker, or EMR.
Infrastructure as code using CloudFormation or Terraform (desirable).
CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, AWS Kinesis, etc.).
Familiarity with visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, QuickSight).
