**About the role**:
An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Software Development Team Leader to join us working in a passionate team on the latest developments in Railway Traffic Management Systems. Our systems work within enterprise platforms utilising message brokers, canonical data models, utilising micro-services and enterprise integration patterns. Deployment is primarily on virtual machines with containerisation and orchestration. The system is composed of components developed locally in Brisbane and also Perth, Italy, Japan and the USA.
You will be responsible for software component development taking into account how they fit into the overall system and performing preliminary integration activities before release to the Verification and Validation team. You will be expected to work with the work package lead, software architect and project engineer to plan and deliver the software while proposing new solutions with options to complex problems. You will also be responsible for producing specifications (design, interface requirements) and ensuring your team follows company process and that product development is aligning to the global roadmap. Specifically the activities will include:
Understand overall project schedule and align development planning to that schedule Identify delivery risks against the schedule and work with the work package lead and project engineer to mitigate risks Plan work allocation to development team, mentor and support them to produce component designs, component tests and test reports Gather component requirements using subsystem requirements and design Ensure compliance of the software development deliverables against SIL 0 requirements of EN 50128, the Software Quality Assurance Plan and Configuration Management Plan Write interface specifications including documenting and describing the message formats;
Much of the software is safety related and requires adherence to software processes, coding standards, cyber security standards and safety standards such as Cenelec EN 50128.
**About you**:
You will have at least 5 years' experience in software development and demonstrated experience in team management. Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns down to object orient design is expected. Experience in C++, Java or similar object orient languages, as well as XML, XSLT, MySQL/MariaDB and unit testing frameworks will all be considered highly.
**Selection Criteria**:
Essential criteria:
- 5+ years of professional industry experience as a software architect or in a similar design role
- Demonstrated experience in managing a team
- Demonstrated experience with UML/SysML or other design modelling
- Demonstrated experience following software requirements
- Demonstrated experience in object oriented design
- Demonstrable capacity to work independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrable ability to deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining a high quality of work
Highly desirable criteria:
- Railway industry experience
- Knowledge of Railway Signalling standards EN 50128, EN 50126 and EN 50129
- Experience with JMS, message brokers, enterprise integration patterns, micro service patterns
- Real time/semi-real time software design/development experience
- Experience in the rail industry
- Experience in or supporting system/subsystem integration
- Experience with MySQL, MariaDB or any similar DBMS
- Experience with Angular, HTML, CSS or similar technologies
- Experience in Cenelec standards
- RPEQ certification
Education, skills and experience
- Bachelor degree qualified in software engineering, computer engineer or similar engineering degrees
