About Indooroopilly State High SchoolOur school is a co-educational Independent Public School with an excellent tradition and reputation for student success. - Deliver high-level skills in modelling for students, teachers, and other school staff members learning Australian Sign Language (Auslan) to assist with the communicative needs of these students within the school environment.
- Ability to translate English to Auslan communications and/or curriculum resources that require to be filmed.
- Provide intervention where students experience difficulties in communication using Auslan and/or English.
- Work alongside with the Teacher of the Deaf to collate and analyse students' Auslan language samples.
- Assist in the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student's understanding of the curriculum through teacher directed tutoring to ensure that the education program is understood. (For example, checking for understanding, working on difficult vocabulary and clarifying homework directions).
- Provide expert advice on Auslan linguistics activities used in the classroom, social setting and tutorials.
- Provide classroom, school level support to enable the learning environment to be inclusive and relevant, with the health and safety of students a high priority.
- Plan, in collaboration with Teachers of the Deaf to provide support to class teachers during classroom activities through the preparation of appropriate and accessible materials for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
- Assist and demonstrate effective interpersonal, organisational and problem-solving skills to develop confidence, independence and a sense of wellbeing, through a variety of approaches across educational and social settings for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Deaf Community and its culture.
- Ability to plan, meet deadlines and prioritise workloads to be flexible in a changing work environment.
