Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

The Supreme Court of Victoria is the highest court in Victoria and comprises the Court of Appeal and the Trial Division. The Court deals with major criminal and civil matters, plus appeals against decisions of lower courts.

About the Role
An opportunity to work with the Honourable Justice Tinney has arisen, with his Honour seeking a legally qualified person to be his associate commencing in late October 2025. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court.
Duties include:
proofreading and editing;performing administrative tasks, including maintaining court records and preparing material for use by the Judge in court;clerking in court;speaking in court – including empanelling juries, taking verdicts and arraigning the accused;liaising with court staff, the public, the media and the profession; andaccompanying the Judge to circuit courts in regional Victoria, as and when required.

About you
The successful applicant must have completed a law degree or be close to completion. Post-admission experience is not essential. An interest in becoming an advocate is desirable.
To be successful in the role, you will possess the following:
a strong academic record;excellent proofreading, editing, typing and computer skills;an advanced organisational capacity;proficiency in English grammar;interpersonal and communication skills to confidently and accurately convey information over the telephone, in writing and in person to members of the legal profession, the public and the media; anda keen appreciation of the importance of the work of the Court and the role of an associate in that work.
A demonstrated interest in extra-curricular activities outside the law is welcomed.The role requires a high degree of sensitivity and professionalism as you will be working closely with Judges, court staff, legal practitioners, and members of the public.
