Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, compliance, regulatory, market and reputational risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We currently have an opportunity to take on the role of Manager, Credit Approval with our Wholesale Credit and Market Risk team. In doing so, you will be involved in supporting the business to ensure the delivery of sound credit decisions, balancing commerciality with a risk mindset in a phase of substantial growth. Essentially, supporting sound asset quality and a conservative credit culture throughout the lending activities of the HSBC Group in Australia while ensuring that the credit approval process is responsive to customer needs and minimising credit losses.

This is a mentally satisfying role, providing you with an entrée to risk management through exposure to a broad range of risk scenarios, enabling you to engage with stakeholders across all aspects of the business as you develop a strong technical skillset.

Your main responsibilities will include:

- Promoting quality financial analysis to ensure consistency of risk grade assessment and clear presentation of financial risk.
- Execution of the credit risk management framework, policies and procedures in respect of corporate counterparties
- Implementing policies & procedures in respect of corporate counterparties, balancing effective risk management with business growth/economic profit objectives, through provision of advice and guidance to the business in the early stage of negotiations for large/complex transactions.
- Providing input into the development of business and functional requirements relating to corporate risk, including credit systems developments.
- Ensuring that credit risk policies related to corporate risk are understood by the stakeholders.
- Regular communications with relevant stakeholders across the business to understand their strategic goals, priorities and constraints, ensuring alignment with Group corporate credit policy.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Solid experience in frontline and/or second line credit risk management.
- A deep understanding of financial statement analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
- Strong attention to detail in a commercial deadline driven environment.
- Degree or post-graduate qualifications in a relevant field / relevant professional qualifications and memberships (e.g. PRIMIA, CA, IIA) would be an advantage, but not essential.
- Exposure to wholesale lending is an advantage.
- Strong pre-existing knowledge of HSBC's wholesale businesses is an advantage.
