
Disability Support Worker

We are seeking a dedicated Disability Support Worker to assist a male NDIS participant in Officer, VIC 3809, to achieve his personal goals and actively participate in his local community. Due to the participant's privacy and personal care needs, a male support worker is preferred. This role involves providing tailored support for 3 days per week, including Saturday, to enhance the participant's wellbeing, dignity, and social inclusion through understanding his needs, preferences, and interests. Applicants must be willing to travel to Officer, VIC 3809, to deliver services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care, including assistance with dressing, eating, showering, toileting, or mobility.
- Offer domestic assistance, such as house cleaning, shopping, laundry, bill paying, or running errands.
- Support transport to appointments and community activities.
- Help develop skills, such as budgeting, using public transport, operating assistive technology, or preparing meals.
- Facilitate participation in social outings, recreational activities, and community events.
- Provide companionship, conversation, and emotional support.
- Perform other duties as required by management or requested by the participant.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate and CPR.
- Cleared National Police Check for disability (within the last 12 months).
- Working with Children Check (required for all direct support roles).
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
- Full Australian driver's licence (required for roles involving travel to deliver services).
- Valid work rights in Australia.
Desirable:
- Recognised qualification in disability or a related field.
**Experience**:
- Desirable (not essential): Previous experience in the disability sector.
Skills & Competencies:
- Genuine interest in supporting people with disabilities.
- Clear and sensitive communication skills when interacting with participants and their families.
- Strong listening and problem-solving skills to adapt to varying situations.
- Effective time management to support the participant's needs across a 3-day schedule.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of patience, emotional resilience, and empathy.
- Ability to build positive relationships with the participant and their support network.
- Capacity to collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Non-judgemental attitude and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Commitment to keeping up with changing standards and codes of conduct in the disability sector.
