**About the Kidney Transplantation Service**
Austin Health hosts an established Kidney Transplantation Service, having performed more than 1,500 transplants since 1974. The service currently undertakes 70-80 adult kidney transplants and 10 paediatric kidney transplant each year, including both deceased and living donor procedures. It is accredited by the Australian and New Zealand Kidney Exchange Program (ANZKX).
As part of the Victorian Kidney Transplant Collaborative (VKTC), Austin Health provides kidney transplant services to other health services including Eastern Health, Barwon Health, Bendigo Health and St Vincent's Health. In addition, Austin performs adult living donor nephrectomy and supports the paediatric kidney transplant programme at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, which conducts approximately 10 cases annually.
The Renal Surgery and Transplant Unit also actively participate in abdominal organ retrieval through the Victorian and Tasmanian Organ Retrieval Service (VICTORS), including the use of machine perfusion for abdominal organs. VICTORS has led national efforts to enhance organ preservation technology, increase organ utilisation, and improve both short
- and long-term transplant outcomes using machine perfusion.
**About the role**
An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Renal Transplant Surgery Fellow at Austin Health, commencing February 2026. Join one of Australia's leading kidney transplant programs, performing over 80 transplants annually, including complex deceased and living donor procedures. This hands-on role includes surgical experience in transplantation, donor nephrectomy, and perioperative management, as well as participation in our state-wide organ retrieval service. You'll be part of a collaborative, high-performing team supporting multiple Victorian hospitals and the paediatric transplant program at the Royal Children's Hospital. **About you**
To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:
- Hold appropriate registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia.
- Have a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or its equivalent.
- Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Renal Transplant Surgery with demonstrated surgical competency.
- Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care.
- Have proven capability and interest in clinical research.
- Exhibit a commitment to teaching of junior medical staff and surgical trainees.
- Be able to communicate at all levels.
- Have well developed teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Evidence of approved English language tests to meet National Boards' English language skills registration standard.
