Electrify your future.About the roleAGL's Asset Integrity team is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy infrastructure.Based in Sydney, this role supports the long-term performance, safety and capability of civil assets across AGL's diverse energy generation portfolio.You will provide expert civil engineering guidance and oversight across AGL's operational sites and project developments.
You will lead the development and maintenance of engineering standards, technical guidelines and specifications that ensure safe, reliable and compliant operations.
You will also contribute to resolving complex performance issues and implementing asset modifications through structured engineering methodologies and risk-informed decision-making.You will also play a key role in supporting new energy projects aligned with AGL's Energy Hubs vision, defining civil requirements, reviewing engineering deliverables and ensuring all aspects of project execution meet regulatory, safety and performance benchmarks.What you'll be doing :Develop and maintain AGL's engineering standards, technical guidelines, technical specifications and design criteria for key civil assets and projects.Provide technical input into design reviews, feasibility studies, capital projects, inspections and performance assessments.Support the Management of Change (MOC) process for asset modifications.Manage project contractors, OEM's and consultant's technical work and deliverablesDefine civil engineering requirements and review deliverables for new energy projects aligned with AGL's Energy Hubs vision.Supporting investigations into plant failures and performance issues, contributing to root cause analysis and resolution strategies.Perform risk management activities by identifying, assessing and implementing effective controls for civil engineering-related risks.Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of asset health monitoring and lifecycle integrity strategies.Capture and share lessons learned from recent and ongoing projects to drive continuous improvement.Identify emerging technologies relevant to civil infrastructure, assess associated risks and opportunities and support their integration into future projects.Lead or contribute to the enhancement of engineering systems, tools and processes to improve efficiency and consistency.Ensure civil engineering activities comply with relevant legal, regulatory and safety obligations.Build strong working relationships with key personnel across Energy Hubs, Transition, Construction, operational sites and the wider AGL group to support cross-functional outcomes.What you'll bring :Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (essentialEligible for membership of Engineers Australia (essential)Eligible for Professional Engineering certification e.g. CPEng (highly-preferred).
Proven experience in energy generation, infrastructure or heavy industry environments.Strong technical and commercial knowledge in areas such as dams, pumped hydro, earthworks, roads, drainage, concrete and steel structures.Solid understanding of engineering processes, asset management principles and project delivery methodologies.Ability to analyse highly complex engineering data and make sound risk informed decisions in ambiguous or evolving conditionsStrong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and balance competing priorities.A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.Adaptability and resilience in dynamic environments, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and change.Willingness to travel to operational sites as required to support project delivery and asset performance.A constructive and team-oriented approach to leadership, with the ability to contribute to the development and performance of cross-functional teams.Applications close 5th September.Inclusion at AGLAt AGL, we value diversity and welcome applicants from various backgrounds, including Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander peoples, individuals with disabilities, culturally diverse individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
