Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Payroll Team Leader on a Non Ongoing contract. Section 26 transfers will also be considered.
**Position Overview**
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Lead and manage the payroll team ensuring deadlines and statutory obligations are effectively met including processing of fortnightly pays, end of month and end of financial year activities and maintenance of accurate employee records
- Coach and manage team members to develop their skills and oversee their workload including:
- providing clarity around roles, expectations and responsibilities
- using on the job opportunities to transfer knowledge and develop capability
- provide continuous feedback
- research and recommend training opportunities to improve and enhance the team skill set.
- Perform and quality assure payroll processes at the end of each pay cycle to ensure employees are paid correctly, deduction authorities receive the required information and the reconciliation of fortnightly pays is completed
- Work with IT and undertake coordinator functions and activities to ensure the system is maintained to meet business requirements
- Provide high level client service on more complex issues related to payroll transactions and conditions
- Contribute to and participate in Branch and team initiatives and programs.
**Key Skills and Competencies Required**:
- Experience in effectively leading and managing a payroll team to deliver quality outcomes
- Experience in building a payroll team's capability
- Able to contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives
- Strong written, communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate and influence outcomes
- Exceptional customer service skills, including using initiative and the ability to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Strong problem solving skills, judgement and analytical skills
- Excellent organisational skills, including energy and drive, and the ability to manage priorities to achieve results
- Resilient with a positive attitude and responsive to changing and competing priorities
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks while still delivering high quality outcomes

**Education and Experience Required**:
- Experience in managing payroll teams to deliver payroll services
- Strong skills in payroll systems, helpdesk systems and Microsoft office products
- Experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system
