**About the role**

Sunshine Children's Emergency is an accredited training site (by the RACP and ACEM) for Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). Our registrar positions are suitable for trainees in general paediatrics, paediatric emergency medicine and general emergency medicine.

Children's Emergency manages approximately 30,000 annual presentations by children (under 18 years of age). The ED has undergone significant redevelopment over the last 3years. A separate and specially designed area for paediatric emergency medicine. The successful applicant(s) will assess and manage paediatric patients and supervise more junior members of the medical team. The PEM registrar roster includes daytime, evening, weekend and night shifts. This position lends itself to job sharing.

Notable features of the department and position include:

- 17 paediatric emergency specialists on staff
- PEM Specialist cover 7 days/week onsite 0800-2330 and on-call
- Joan Kirner Women's and Children's inpatient and outpatient paediatric services with potential for combined appointments
- Teaching and supervision of residents and interns is a key part of the role
- Multi-modal teaching provided in person and via video-links
- Cultural & economic diversity of Melbourne's western suburb

**Key responsibilities**:

- Accurately reflect the patient's requirements, outcomes or events within prescribed Western Health documentation, ensuring all legal requirements are met in regard to legibility of content and identity of reporter in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures
- Participate in the development of discharge plans that reflects the needs of patients and their significant others and demonstrates understanding of the role of community providers. Assume responsibility for communication with community providers
- Provide supervision for the clinical activities of the junior medical staff on the unit, according to the level of experience of the individual
- Facilitate effective clinical handovers within the Paediatric ED and to external units and providers

**About you**:
To be Successful in this role you will have:

- 12 months of paediatrics or emergency medicine
- Desirable Experience
- 6 months of neonatology
- APLS course completion
- PICU or ICU experience
- Retrieval experience

Advanced trainees
- Accredited for the General Paediatric requirement for acute care
- Accredited for Paediatric Emergency Medicine training
- Accredited for TS3/TS4 level training by ACEM

Basic Trainees
- Continuing basic trainees and international medical graduates welcome to apply
