Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and strategic Health and Wellbeing Lead to join the People, Culture and Safety Team. The role provides specialist advice and delivers programs to build individual and team wellbeing, manage psychosocial risks, and strengthen our workplace culture. The role embeds safe and healthy work practices, promotes positive mental health, and supports recovery and resilience across our diverse workforce. Explore opportunities at Melbourne Airport and learn about our culture, values, and what's unique about working with us at corporate/our-culture-and-values. Join us in shaping the future of aviation as we propel Melbourne Airport towards becoming Australia's favourite Airport destination.
Key responsibilities
Design and deliver a wellbeing program, supported by campaigns and workshops that build individual and team resilience.
Work closely with leaders and teams to identify, assess and address psychosocial hazards, supporting the Airport's broader health and safety objectives.
Bring contemporary thinking and best practice to wellbeing and mental health programs, ensuring compliance with Australia's OHS requirements.
Manage the Airport's critical incident response approach, providing guidance and coordination of support for employees affected by critical or traumatic workplace events.
Oversee the Employee Assistance Program and drive its continuous improvement and awareness across the business.
Develop resources and training that build confidence in recognising and responding to mental health concerns and supporting colleagues.
Manage the Airport's Return to Work program to ensure early intervention and safe, supported return to work for work-related and non-work-related conditions.
Collaborate with Safety, People & Culture and insurers to ensure processes align with Workers Compensation legislation and Airport procedures.
Work with insurance partners to monitor workers compensation trends and support initiatives that reduce premium impacts and injury rates.
Partner with Learning & Capability in the delivery of training and materials to build awareness of psychosocial risk, mental health and wellbeing across all parts of the organisation.
Manage the Airport's Mental Health First Aid and First Aid programs, including provider liaison, ensuring current certifications and compliance with workplace codes of practice.
Draft and maintain wellbeing policies, resources and communications aligned with our Safety Management System.
Contribute to regular safety and wellbeing reporting for senior leaders and the Board.
Provide input into broader culture, change and capability initiatives, ensuring programs build trust, engagement and inclusion.
Support leaders with coaching and team development to build psychological safety, trust and resilience.
Analyse wellbeing and safety data and translate insights into meaningful actions to strengthen the Airport's culture.
Qualifications and experience
Passion about making a positive difference in complex and diverse workplaces. A practical, people-centred approach with collaboration to turn ideas into outcomes with impact.
Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating workplace wellbeing and mental health programs.
Strong working knowledge of psychosocial risk management, workplace mental health and critical incident response.
Experience supporting return-to-work or injury management programs, ideally in line with Australian Workers Compensation framework.
Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including translating insights into practical actions and reports.
Experience in aviation, transport, infrastructure or other safety-critical or unionised industries.
Familiarity with workplace surveys, psychometric tools or wellbeing analytics.
Qualifications in Human Resource Management (or a related field) or organisational psychology will be highly regarded.
We understand that not everyone will feel they meet all of these criteria. If you have the attitude and aptitude to grow within our team, we invite you to apply and discuss this position with us.
