Tassal is seeking a motivated Hatchery Technician to join our close-knit team at our Russell Falls Hatchery, surrounded by lush forest and majestic waterfalls.In this vital role, you will be responsible for the care and nurturing of salmon across all life stages, from eggs through to broodstock.
You'll work with advanced Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) and flow-through systems, playing a crucial role in sustainable salmon production.
This is a hands-on, physical role for someone who loves the outdoors, is a forward-thinking problem solver, and is ready to learn and grow within our supportive organisation.Responsibilities:Operate and monitor advanced hatchery systems (RAS and flow-through), ensuring optimal water quality parameters.Handle all salmon life stages, including the careful handling of large broodstock.Calculate feeding rates and manage feed supplies to ensure optimal fish health and growth.Participate in a 7-day roster, including weekend and potential overnight shifts to attend to alarms and complete tasks.Conduct daily operational tasks and maintenance across both the Russell Falls and Karanja sites.Proactively identify and solve problems to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and system performance.Maintain a relentless commitment to safety in all tasks, including working in confined spaces.Role requirements:Ability to perform physical work in cold and wet environments.A proactive, safety-conscious mindset and a strong team player attitude.Willingness to learn and adapt to new hatchery techniques and technologies.Ability to work a dynamic 7-day roster, including weekends and potential overnight shifts.A current driver's licence.Advantageous, but not essential: Aquaculture experience; a Certificate III in Aquaculture; forklift or confined space licences.Role offerings:A permanent, full-time role with a leading, sustainable aquaculture company.A competitive salary and overtime opportunities, recognising your contribution.Career development opportunities within the wider Tassal Group.A safe and inclusive workplace with an unwavering commitment to your wellbeing.Company culture:Our people each contribute in different ways, embracing our business values and harnessing our can do – safely culture with purpose and intent.
