1 year of relevant work experience required for this role
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
1-2 years of previous barista experience in a café or coffee shop setting preferred
Strong understanding of different coffee beans, espresso blends, and brewing methods (e.g., French press, pour-over, cold brew)
Knowledge of drink recipes, including espresso-based beverages (lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos), as well as non-espresso drinks (tea, juices, smoothies)
Precision in measuring coffee grounds, adjusting grind size, steaming milk to the correct texture, and ensuring drink quality and consistency
Attention to presentation, ensuring drinks are visually appealing and served at the appropriate temperature
Efficiently managing time, especially during peak hours, while staying organised and calm under pressure
Ability to quickly adapt to changes in orders, customer preferences, or unexpected situations
Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage with customers in a warm, friendly manner
Ability to create new drink offerings or put a creative spin on classic coffee drinks, such as latte art or seasonal specials
Openness to experimenting with new flavors and techniques to enhance the overall coffee experience
Formal training in barista skills or coffee-making techniques is a plus, though not essential
Assist in preparing sandwiches, toasties, and light food items during service
Experience using POS systems for processing orders and payments, stock control and inventory, staff roster and manage the daily operations of the cafe
Familiarity with food safety regulations and procedures to ensure a clean and safe work environment
