Occupational Therapy Services operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals, with services aligned to Alfred Health's goals. About The Role
The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) will work closely with Occupational Therapy staff to provide a flexible service that meets each client's therapeutic goals. Based in the subacute team at Caulfield Hospital, the role primarily delivers care in the home-based team and one day per week on the Caulfield Rehabilitation/Aged Care Wards.
Responsibilities include implementing individual and group interventions and therapy programs as delegated by the Occupational Therapist, facilitating group interventions (e.g., upper limb retraining, falls education), and helping patients increase functional abilities in areas such as personal care, meal preparation, and community access. The AHA will work autonomously, communicate effectively with the OT team, and provide administrative and clinical support to enhance service efficiency.
Skills & Experience
Completion of Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistance) or recognised equivalent qualification (as determined by the line manager)
Higher qualification in a relevant health science discipline at Diploma or Associate Diploma level OR certificate-level qualification in a relevant health-related field
Overseas-trained Allied Health practitioner with a Diploma level qualification or higher
Allied Health undergraduate student who has completed at least one year of study in a relevant health science discipline
Previous employment in an AHA Grade 2 or Grade 3 role (3+ years of clinical experience preferred for Grade 3)
Experience in an acute hospital setting and/or rehabilitation
Ability to work autonomously within scope of practice and collaborate with medical, nursing and allied health teams
Strong interpersonal, organizational, planning and time-management skills
Driver's licence is essential
