**The Role**
As an APS 6 Grants Framework Policy Advisor within the Financial Policy Directorate, you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself in a unique policy environment. You will gain valuable experience with:
- Being a trusted advisor on grants policy to support Defence decision makers.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of Defence grants management policy.
- Reviewing and contributing to high-level briefs, reports and correspondence.
- Supporting Defence officials to make well informed recommendations and decisions, including providing advice on the most appropriate financial arrangements.
- Regularly engaging with and providing support to Grant Program areas within Defence.
- Developing productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting the EL1 Grants Policy officer with the day-to-day business activities to deliver high quality services and grants implementation within Defence.

**About our Team**
The Financial Policy Directorate sits within the Financial Compliance Branch in Budgets and Financial Services Division, and performs the essential function of developing and maintaining core financial frameworks, to assist Defence staff in performing their financial responsibilities in an efficient and effective but also a compliant manner. We also deliver a range of policy and reporting requirements relating to the Defence Financial Management Framework.
We are a highly performing and cohesive team which supports continuous improvement and delivers results in a supportive and diverse environment.
Elements of what the team are responsible for are fast paced and highly visible, requiring the management of limited resources to deliver on competing priorities and deadlines. We are looking for motivated people with a keen interest in analysing issues and problem solving.

- Problem solving and client service skills.
- The ability to gain an understanding of the Commonwealth Grants Policy Framework and relevant Commonwealth legislation.
- Experience with developing and maintaining policy documents, ensuring alignment with commonwealth policy frameworks.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, in particular the demonstrated ability to prepare written reports and briefs.
- Be an organised and independent worker who can identify priorities and manage risks to deliver high-quality outputs and meet set timeframes.
- The ability to effectively manage competing priorities and have a flexible approach to respond to emerging pressures.
