**About Make-A-Wish Australia**:
Make-A-Wish is one of Australia's most trusted charities and part of the largest wish-granting organisations in the world. We partner with children with life threatening conditions, their families and medical teams to grant wishes as unique as the children who imagine them. At Make-A-Wish, our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child as we believe these wishes complement treatment, build resilience and bring hope to these children and their families when they need it most.
Make-A-Wish Australia can offer employees:
- the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of critically ill children in an internationally renowned charity organisation,
- a genuinely flexible and inclusive workplace, with excellent work-life balance,
- wellbeing support including an Employee Assistance Program,
- opportunities for career progression, and
- access to salary packaging arrangements.
**About This Role**:
The Communications Manager brings to life our mission—connecting hearts and minds through powerful storytelling and purposeful cross platform messaging, whilst maintaining our unwavering commitment to child safety. The role is responsible for executing comms across channels, aligned to our strategy that inspire action, build trust, and deepen engagement with our supporters, partners, and team. From heartfelt stories of impact to essential updates, the role ensures every message reflects our values and drives our mission forward. The role also acts as a point person for key media agencies, playing an important facilitation role.
The Communications Manager sits in a Brand and Marketing team of approximately 10 people and has supervising responsibility over two staff members.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- copy creation and editorial calendar management,
- internal and stakeholder communications,
- management and coaching of a small team of communications professionals, and
- data, innovation and operational excellence that maximises efficiency and effectiveness.
This role is initially offered as a 12-month maximum-term contract position, based at Make-A-Wish's head office in Richmond (Victoria), with flexibility to work-from-home 2-3 days per week.
**About You**:
You are purpose-driven and passionate about the power of great communication. You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team and love turning briefs and ideas into copy that drives action and builds trust. From creating impactful fundraising copy to crafting branded collateral to managing the editorial calendar, you have the versatility all great communicators have.
You bring a warm, proactive attitude to your work and are confident writing for different audiences and channels. You may have experience in communications, journalism, marketing or content strategy — and have a great understanding of using brand voice.
You're comfortable juggling multiple priorities, managing deadlines and guiding others. You know when to take initiative and when to collaborate — always striving for the best supporter experience.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing or content strategy, with hands on copywriting experience,
- exceptional writing and editing skills across formats and channels, and know how AI can support,
- an understanding of the nuance, language, and best practices of not-for-profit marketing and communication
- strong organisation and stakeholder management abilities,
- high attention to detail and problem-solving skills, and
- a team-first approach and passion for creating great supporter experiences.
It is also essential that you align yourself with the Make-A-Wish values of Child Safety, Integrity, Impact, Innovation and Community.
