Ubuntu Security Engineer

We are hiring an Ubuntu Security Engineer to join an industry-leading security engineering team and help protect the open source community and Ubuntu users from emerging threats.
We are looking for candidates across all levels of experience, from Graduate to Senior.This role is engineering-focused and may involve activities such as producing security assessments, building features, conducting code reviews, developing internal tools, engaging with the open source community, and participating in industry initiatives and events.
The position may require international travel at least twice a year and the ability to be productive in a globally distributed team.
Location: Worldwide, this is a globally remote role.ResponsibilitiesAnalyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in open source packagesKeeping track of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed, leveraging internal toolsCollaborating with other teams in the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure Ubuntu includes robust security featuresAuditing source code for vulnerabilitiesBuilding features and tools to help teams strengthen the security of their products and contribute to the overall security of UbuntuWhat we are looking for in youThorough understanding of the common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing themFamiliarity with coordinated disclosure practicesFamiliarity with open source development tools and methodologiesSkill in one or more of C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP or JavaScript/TypeScriptExcellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skillsClear and effective communication with the team and Ubuntu community membersExperience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountabilityAppreciation of diversity and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-national organizationThoughtfulness and self-motivationResult-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitmentsWhat we offerDistributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in personPersonal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per yearAnnual compensation reviewRecognition rewardsAnnual holiday leaveMaternity and paternity leaveTeam Member Assistance Program & Wellness PlatformOpportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleaguesTravel upgrades for long-haul company eventsAbout CanonicalCanonical is a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of open source.
