**Role responsibilities include managing the QCS Statewide Dog Squad Operational Training Unit and ensuring compliance with operating and training standards for dog handlers. This involves maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks concerning the training and deployment of General Purpose and Passive Alert Drug Detection duties. The position also requires overseeing the development and assessment of training materials and trainer capabilities to ensure they align with QCS standards.

Additionally, the role entails providing guidance on enhancements to training methodologies and operational practices. They are responsible for delivering and managing training sessions for both new and existing dog handlers, as well as overseeing the selection process for future QCS dog handlers to guarantee effective service delivery.

The position contributes to the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures for dog handling, ensuring compliance with correctional centre service requirements. Adherence to various legislative frameworks, such as Animal Welfare and Workplace Health and Safety, is also essential, along with advising QCS dog squad officers on health and welfare matters concerning the dogs. Recording and addressing inquiries related to dog behaviour and handlers is part of the responsibilities as well.

Managing the acquisition of assets related to the dog squad, including dogs and operational equipment, while maintaining records and registers for various operating requirements is crucial. This includes overseeing budgets and expenses for dog squad operations to ensure financial efficiency. The role requires supervising the upkeep of facilities and equipment and addressing any maintenance issues as necessary.

Furthermore, the position involves sourcing information for operational reporting, facilitating communication with custodial managers and dog handlers to ensure compliance, and participating in inter-agency activities for knowledge sharing.
