We're passionate about what we do, we embrace new opportunities, and we put our people and our customers at the heart of every decision.OverviewAbout this role: Reporting to the CEO & Co-Founder, the People & Culture Manager oversees all day-to-day HR operations across our Support Office and Stores, while also contributing to the development and delivery of The Memo's broader People & Culture strategy.
In this standalone, hands-on and highly generalist role, you will act as the brand's true ambassador, embodying and protecting The Memo DNA and ensuring every team member's experience is positive, meaningful, and aligned with our values.
You will partner with the Leadership Team and Store Managers during a period of exciting growth, with the opportunity to shape culture, influence strategy, and create a supportive workplace where people thrive.ResponsibilitiesPeople & Culture OperationsManage the full employee lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, induction, development, performance management, and offboarding).
Maintain accurate employee records and manage fortnightly payroll with our external partner.Partner with leaders to align P&C strategy with business goals.Manage the People & Culture budget monthly.Employee Relations & ComplianceAct as the first point of contact for all People & Culture and ER matters.Provide coaching, support and process improvement across the business.Stay up to date with Australian employment law and modern awards (including GRIA).
Review, update and communicate team policies and handbooks.Manage WorkCover claims, Return-to-Work plans, and government parental leave processes.Culture & EngagementPartner with the ELT to develop initiatives that drive engagement and build a values-driven culture.Deliver recognition programs, professional development opportunities, and engagement activities.Plan and execute internal events, celebrations, team activities, and company offsites.Store Team SupportBuild strong and trusted relationships with Store Managers.Support retail teams with recruitment, onboarding, development, and engagement.Ensure a consistent and positive People & Culture framework across all stores.Oversee workplace health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives across Support Office and stores.Conduct OH&S audits and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.Develop and deliver wellbeing programs aligned to The Memo's "feel good" ethos, supporting mental health and work-life balance.Office Management & SystemsOversee smooth daily running of the Support Office.Manage suppliers, trades, and building management relationships.Coordinate IT and systems setup for new employees.Act as the first point of contact for basic IT support, escalating when necessary.About YouYou are an experienced HR generalist who thrives in a standalone role and enjoys working across the full spectrum of People & Culture.
You are confident in handling ER matters, proactive in ensuring compliance, and passionate about building a supportive and values-driven culture.
You combine strong technical HR knowledge with excellent communication and relationship skills, and you love the opportunity to make a direct impact in a growing business.Proven experience in a standalone People & Culture/HR role, ideally within retail or a high-growth business.Strong knowledge of Australian employment law and modern awards (including GRIA).
