Our vision is to create your home assistant, tackling the trillion-dollar home services market around the world.
Our mission is to take care of homes and the people in them. We're starting with rebuilding property management by taking care of investment property homes for Australian owners and tenants.
We know what it takes to build a successful startup. : Different has two co-founders with many years of experience in Silicon Valley, Mina was the Global Head of Product at Uber and Ruwin a Director at Softbank. Our entire leadership team has deep experience and networks in the technology space, hailing from companies such as Bain, Expedia, Google, Siteminder, SyscoLabs and more.
We've grown rapidly, operate in three Australian capital cities and have plans to expand further around Australia and into other global markets.
**About the role**
We are a team of 200+ globally and will continue to grow. We build all of our own technology and have both internal and external users. Our internal users need to become power users quickly, while consistently learning about the new features we're building. Our external users (owners/tenants/suppliers) need clear and simple guidelines in the rare cases they can't do exactly what they're trying to.
Our team of incredible designers (5 product designers, 1 marketing designer - and growing) need a Head of Design to help us meet our ambitions and take our team, product, design practice and business to the next level. Reporting to the VP of Product and Design you will be a key member of the : Different senior leadership team who is accountable for developing and managing all aspects of our design and creative output.

**Your responsibilities include**:

- Manage and grow the team of designers, developing their understanding across research, problem + solution definition, and high fidelity product design
- Drive our design culture and practice by helping shape the how, what and why of design, communicating and advocating for design inside your team and out
- Grow a culture of design feedback to team members with sensitivity and honesty, helping them to grow and develop their skills
- Hold a high standard of design and maintain brand across all design artifacts, products, and customer touchpoints
- Establish and lead a scalable design strategy, processes, budgets and schedules for key deliverables and projects.
- Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to maintain an efficient and cohesive delivery process
- Collaborate with product and marketing to create an efficient and cohesive product release process
- Developing a deep understanding and empathy for our internal and external customers - Championing their experience based on this.
- Contributing to the overall company leadership, bringing the design perspective and the insights of our customers
- Lead by example in collaborating with operations, marketing, engineering, and product teams.

**Who you are**
- An experienced leader and people manager, with a strong history in directing and developing design teams. Bonus if you have experience with a distributed team as our designers are in both Australia and Sri Lanka.
- Have a strong design background, having worked extensively in digital product companies, managing design teams and design systems
- Have a strong customer focus, and can guide teams to create great product experiences
- Have strong communication and influencing skills - you're able to act as a design evangelist and effectively align the wider tech team and business with your vision
- Have a high bar of quality but know how to balance it with speed of delivery and can prioritise and communicate accordingly
- Comfortable in a fast paced environment and ready to roll up your sleeves to get involved wherever you are needed
- Uses metrics to determine success and data to drive decisions
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with comfort adapting to the : Different tone of voice.
