The Department of Communities and Justice carries out an important purpose across many areas of work, particularly when it comes to improving outcomes for children and young people, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people experiencing domestic and family violence, victims of sexual assault, young and adult offenders, people at high risk of reoffending, and people experiencing homelessness.

**About the Deputy Secretary, Strategy Policy and Commissioning role**
The Deputy Secretary Strategy Policy and Commissioning role provides executive leadership to drive and deliver significant change across the sector to transform service delivery and champion cultural change that facilitates improved outcomes for vulnerable members of our community through executive management of a diverse portfolio that spans across Housing and Homelessness, Disability, Aboriginal People, Women's Safety, Domestic and Family Violence, Child Protection, Criminal Justice and Commissioning
The role will lead and direct evidence-based policy and sector reform that reshapes the NSW justice and human services systems, strengthens funding allocation efficiency and effectiveness, and drives the development and delivery of targeted cross-functional and cross agency programs and services, that are aligned to the objectives of the Department of Communities and Justice, the NSW Government and clients.
The Deputy Secretary Strategy Policy and Commissioning is also responsible for day-to-day oversight of the NSW Women's Safety Commissioner. The Commissioner works with the Minister on overseeing the whole of NSW government policy and programs on domestic, family and sexual violence.
The responsibilities of the Deputy Secretary, Strategy Policy and Commissioning will also include:
- **Leading **the development and execution of new ways to deliver effective and sustainable cross sector services and drive transformation of the Department of Communities and Justice and the sector.
- **Driving** the development of strategic planning, policy, commissioning, procurement, monitoring and evaluation of services,
- **Directing **the delivery of an integrated policy portfolio with a clear focus on client outcomes and engagement with the frontline to facilitate an effective interface between policy development and seamless delivery of services and programs which are consistent with government reform, priorities and community expectations.
- **Developing** strategic cost benchmarking frameworks and processes, undertaking critical analysis of current approaches and future opportunities to inform decisions around access to services, maximising value, aligning costs to strategic outcomes and strengthening the sector's ability to respond to community needs.
