Lancelin Caretaker

**About the role**

Ventia's Defence Base Services (DBS) team are seeking an experienced and customer focused **Caretaker **to work within a well-established team to undertake a variety of caretaking duties at Lancelin Defence base. This is a live-in arrangement (house provided on site) working a 38-hour week, however there is also a requirement to be on call and/or work out of hours, including weekends when required.

You will be required to provide customer support to personnel using the facilities and to ensure that the facilities are safe, well maintained and run smoothly and assist in delivering and maintaining an exceptional service for our client. In addition, you will also provide ad hoc maintenance where required, therefore your skills in maintenance and using power tools will see you succeed in this role.

**About** you**

Reporting directly into the Range Services Supervisor, you will act as the first point of contact for all incoming enquiries, assist with Range Safety and management duties. You will need to be confident when dealing with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally and have good written and verbal communication skills.

You are a self-driven and safety conscious individual who is accomplished at performing work autonomously, responding to concerns, demonstrating by example, keeping open and clear communication lines and being regularly involved in the day-to-day needs and operations of the business. In accordance with the business needs, you understand that you may be required to step in and fulfil other duties and responsibilities from time to time.

**Key duties, but not limited to**:

- Provide out of hours and weekend Range Control Function
- On site and available during AH times when activities are in progress on Range
- Site security access, safety briefing, issuing of Range standing orders and all related paperwork including online documents such as IMS
- Operation and monitoring of radio system and keeping of accurate communications log
- General non-tech maintenance and cleaning duties
- Maintain tidiness around the exterior of range control
- Assist Range Operators with Land Management tasks and fence inspections/repairs
- First Response Bushfire Fighting and monitoring of fire grounds
- Other administrative and associated duties across miscellaneous service lines

**Skills & experience**:

- Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within Defence or similar operational environment
- Valid Australian manual drivers' licence
- Hold current Operational licences and equipment tickets
- Experience with the use relevant tools including power tools, chain saws etc
- Working knowledge with inventory control, stock management and storage maintenance
High level of navigational/orientation skills
- Experience in Range and/or Defence Land Management (highly desirable)
- Current certificate in Senior First Aid
- Bush firefighting qualifications desirable
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Computer literacy and basic report writing skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and autonomously with mínimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to work alone, stay motivated and organise and prioritise competing demands and priorities

**Other special conditions**
- The incumbent to this position _**_must_**_ be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance up to a level of negative vetting 1 (secret). As a result of this requirement the incumbent must be an Australian Citizen. _
- This position requires a National Police Clearance check and hold a valid Australian driver's licence._
