**Our Role**

We are recruiting a Health, Safety & Environment Manager, with a strong focus on external and government relations, for our Australian operations, supporting our Northern Region (NSW and QLD). Reporting to the Director Corporate Affairs, Environment & Sustainability APAC, this role works with operations leadership, functional managers and other key stakeholders to drive HSE and sustainability outcomes in line with Graymont standards and regulatory requirements. This role is a key government liaison on behalf of Graymont and will work in partnership with internal stakeholders to build positive relationships with key external stakeholders.

**Key responsibilities will include**:

- Foster a mature safety culture where people are looking out for their own and their co-workers' health and safety
- In collaboration with regional and functional leaders, lead the implementation of government relations and public affairs initiatives throughout NSW and QLD, ensuring Graymont's interests are promoted and protected
- Lead the Regional execution of global HSE and sustainability initiatives to deliver outcomes aligned to Graymont's strategic objectives
- Lead strategic Regional environmental permitting projects in collaboration with Graymont operations leadership and functional managers by liaising with regulatory authorities, coordinating external resources, and supporting engagement with relevant stakeholders to maintain and strengthen Graymont's social license to operate
- Actively champion Graymont HSE systems to achieve industry leading HSE/sustainability outcomes
- Deliver strategic environmental permitting outcomes for operations and growth projects
- Partner with Director Operations, Plant Managers and HSE professionals to drive continuous improvement in HSE and ensure compliance with Graymont HSE Standards and all relevant HSE regulatory requirements
- Provide expert advice and support by monitoring Regional HSE and sustainability performance and key metrics, identifying internal and external trends, recommending improvements and contributing to decision-making and strategy development
- Support safety and environmental incident investigations, helping to identify and implement corrective and preventative measures, including organisational factors
- Role model the Graymont values and support implementation of sustainability programs and initiatives within the Region

**You will ideally have**:

- Ability to work positively with internal and external stakeholders, including government and regulatory authorities, local community and industry associations
- Proven track record developing and promoting a safe work culture
- High level of knowledge of relevant HSE regulations, acts, and legislation
- Be committed to supporting our operational teams to keep our people safe, protect our environment and enhance our reputation
- Possess qualifications in safety, environment management or equivalent
- Valid driver's license and well-rounded skills in using Microsoft office suite
