As the **Social Impact Arm** of the YMCA, Y-Care trades as YMCA Social Impact and exists to serve people in our community who are disadvantaged. Social Impact's programs each operate in different areas but share the common theme of assisting people overcome the challenges they face in body, mind and spirit. Services and programs managed by Social Impact fall under the following five (5) focus areas: Education; Community Centres; Healthy Futures, Community Housing, and Social Enterprise.
**The Space North Lakes** is located in the heart of the North Lakes town centre. It is a regional youth facility and dedicated, multi-purpose space for the young people from the local community to socialise, have fun and be creative in a safe and welcoming environment through structured and unstructured arts, cultural and sporting activities.
We are now recruiting a **Youth and Community Worker** to join our team based at** The Space** located in **North Lakes, QLD**. This is a** Casual Position **& will commence** **with 5 hours initially with the potential to increase.
**THE ROLE**
The role of **Youth and Community Worker** is critical to the operation of Youth and Community Services. The major tasks associated with the role include:
- Facilitate the delivery of specific employment and wellbeing programs to participants who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, in accordance with specified program guidelines
- Provide support to participants in their quest to gain meaningful, long-term employment
- Impart up-to-date knowledge, skills and abilities to identified participants essential to accessing the labour market and gaining employment, and create resources for workshop delivery accordingly
- Liaise with locally-based employers to facilitate productive working relationships that lead to opportunities for young program participants
- Support the delivery of vocational assessments programs offered to participants
- Assist in delivering associated programs, services and events offered to participants through the operation of locally based programs
- Form intentional relationships with participants so that their strengths, passions, interests and unmet needs can be supported appropriately through the operation of the YMCA Social Impact Programs
- Support, case management, and service planning of identified participants in line with organisational policies and practice, as well as funding guidelines
**THE PERSON**
**The ideal applicant** will enjoy a challenge, have a passion for working with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and has a keen interest in overall well-being.
More specifically you will be able to meet the following key selection criteria:
- Certificate IV or above qualification in Youth Work, Community Services or similar qualification (or studying towards this);
- Experience in working with at risk people;
- Prior experience in coordinating youth-related programs and outreach;
- Ability to communicate effectively with young people including the use of appropriate interpersonal skills and the ability communicate appropriately with young people and their families from diverse cultural backgrounds;
- Be able to demonstrate the importance of following procedures and ensuring a safe environment at all times;
- First Aid and CPR qualifications and Blue Card;
- Sensitivity in responding to youth from a range of lifestyles, capacities, expectations and cultures.
