The role helps ensure that advice and services are provided in a culturally informed manner to ensure positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander children and families
The Practice Leader (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) key responsibilities are:
- Provide strategic advice and mentoring to key departmental staff, to deliver a program of work for improving the quality of the casework to address the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in the child protection system.
- Strengthen the relationships between departmental staff and funded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, to improve the quality of the decisions and services delivered for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
- Build constructive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies and communities with a focus on developing a shared responsibility and ownership for the protection of children and young people.
- Analyse performance data to identify trends and issues, consider systemic issues and the relationship between multiple performance measures in terms of the impact on service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Provide evidence-based advice on the delivery of effective and culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and carers.
- Manage multiple projects including implementation as part of the ongoing reform and renewal agenda and ensure embedding of the Strengthening Families Protecting Children Framework for Practice.
