Applewood Distillery and Unico Zelo are employing a full-time Cellar Hand to help take everything we do to the next level.

We are a company owned by drinks-fuelled-agri-geeks who believe in the cultural pillars of drinks, food and stories to radically reconnect us to the land we belong to. Our family owned business has been crafting wine from drought-hardy vines with mínimal intervention and hyper-aromatic Gin meticulously distilled with the rare botanicals from our native landscape in the Adelaide Hills since 2012.

Position Description

We are looking for a proactive, hands-on cellar hand to join the team and work across our distillery, bottling and winery operations. This is a full-time role Monday to Friday on the Operations team, based at our Gumeracha winery and distillery.

A typical day in this role will include setting up for bottling, emptying and loading the still and assisting with cleaning, racking and blending in the winery. You will have the opportunity to work in all facets of production and learn about distillery and winery concepts, with a typical week in this role including 2 days of bottling and 3 days of distillery or winery work.

You will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of hygiene of all vessels and cellar equipment while ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner. Work will be provided by cellar notes and you will have autonomy to schedule tasks appropriately through the day.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Gain knowledge and experience of cellar operations:

- Assist in the daily production of craft spirits & liqueurs
- Still operations including unloading, loading, & running the still
- Maintain cellar hygiene standards
- Blending and filtration of gin, liqueurs and wine
- Crushing, pressing and fermentation
- Basic laboratory processes
- Barrel stacking, cleaning and maintenance

Under supervision gain experience and sound knowledge in a variety of cellar activities:

- Bottling line
- Forklift driving
- Barrel stacking, cleaning and maintenance
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area
- Other matters as directed from time to time

Other:

- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety procedures
- Follow quality management procedures

Relationships
- Reports to Distillery
- Provides assistance to winery and bottling teams as required and directed

Qualifications and experience
- Food or beverage manufacturing experience preferred
- Following safety procedures
- Valid forklift licence preferred
