Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Coal Technician to join our team on a casual basis in Paget, QLD.
In this hands-on role, you'll be key to delivering accurate and timely preparation and analysis of coal and related samples, working to recognised international standards and contributing to high-quality results for our clients
Your key responsibilities in this role will include but are not limited to:
Follow correct procedures for sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage, and reporting.
Ensure accuracy, precision, and traceability of samples with timely completion of tasks.
Assist with preventative maintenance of preparation equipment and maintain a safety-aware environment.
Use basic CCLAS for sample booking and analysis.
Communicate effectively with previous and following shifts.
Stop using any equipment that poses a safety risk or could affect results, and report to the Supervisor.
Perform routine and project sampling, preparation, and analysis.
Plan shift workflow and coordinate sample pick-ups and analysis.
Be available for shift work with reasonable notice.
Work across testing, sampling, and analytical areas as required.
Maintain a clean, safe work environment, including participating in site housekeeping and occasional special clean-ups.
Qualifications
SGS is looking for candidates who come from a fast-paced background.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Coal sampling, preparation and testing experience preferred, but not essential
Good computer skills, Excel proficiency beneficial and previous experience with data management programs (highly regarded)
Previous experience in general mineral laboratory environment preferred, but not essential
Ability to work on rotating shifts
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet tight deadlines
