**Purpose**

The Unit Manager Community Health and Safety is a role that encompasses leadership and
management of community health and safety matters within Council. The primary objective
of this position is to manage and enhance community health and safety related outcomes
across the city, covering regulatory services and environmental health.

While working in alignment with the Manager Development and Regulatory Services, the
individual will need a commitment to work towards a long-term community vision of
community health and safety services in response to local needs.

This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain solid
relationships with internal and external stakeholders. As a leader within the organisation,
this role will have the customer, community and safety at the forefront of that is done to
provide the highest level of service both internally and externally.

**Key Deliverables**
- Foster and lead a team culture focused on delivering exceptional customer

experience in community health and safety matters.
- Utilise an operation management approach to manage workloads, allocate

appropriate resources to ensure that the Community Health and Safety Team
delivers services in accordance with corporate, team and individual KPI's and SLA's as
required.
- Be an innovative, dynamic and expert leader in community health and safety related

matters across Council, including identifying and implementing opportunities for
continuous improvement projects to enhance the services provided to the
community.
- Support the individual development of staff through the development and utilisation

of Professional Development Plans.
- Undertaken human resource activities associated with workforce planning,

recruitment, performance management and identifying learning and development
opportunities within the team.
- Prepare and coordinate reports, information for briefings and business cases to

Council for matters related to the Community Health and Safety Team.
- Ensure that Community Health and Safety operates within the approved budget

requirements to meet work area plans.
- Contribute to the management of operational risk and implement risk management

processes within the business unit.
- Comply with the requirements set out by the Return to Work Act 2014 and the Local

Government Association Workers Compensation Scheme, and undertake activities
associated with Return to Work practices.
