The Self Determination Fund is established as a public charitable trust with the First People's Assembly of Victoria (as the Aboriginal Representative Body under the
_Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians Act 2018_ (Vic)). The Self Determination Fund is the first of its kind and with an initial $65m from the Victorian Government. Having registered its DGR status, future funding may also be raised from members of the public, other non-government and potentially government sources.

The organisation aims to achieve the following:

- Supporting First Peoples in Victoria in having equal standing and footing within the State in Treaty negotiations
- Provide long term financial support independent from the State to support First Nations Peoples to build capacity, wealth and prosperity in perpetuity

**About the role**:
The Trustee of the Self Determination Fund is seeking a CEO who can build a team and organisation to deliver on its vision and strategic outcomes. This new role and new organisation will require a unique individual who understands how to build from the ground up - establishing leadership capability in investment management, grant policy framework, measuring impact, governance and reporting. The CEO will be an expert relationship builder across a diverse range of stakeholders including First Peoples' community, Traditional Owners and future potential doners and ensure a cohesive and collaborative approach is taken in achieving the desired outcomes.

The incoming CEO must demonstrate the capacity to understand and implement the principles of self-determination and empowerment, fairness and equity, responsiveness, innovation, respect, safety, transparency and accountability. Additionally, we are seeking the following knowledge and experience:

- Proven experience as a CEO or Senior Executive, with expertise in funds management (preferably a charitable trust).
- Strength in operationalizing strategic plans - requiring strong P&L management, governance, commercial acumen and risk management
- At an executive level, can demonstrate a strategic and hands-on approach at the same time.
- Proven ability to develop and nurture complex stakeholder management relationships including Elders, Ministers, government, community and partnerships
- Authentic leadership: knows how to mobilise and engage teams and demonstrates courage and humility
- Strong understanding of and interest in the First Peoples' community sector and/or inclusion agenda in addressing complex social, political, economic and environmental issues facing First Peoples now and in the future
